Naderi law group - Chevrolet Silverado lemon law

Pickup trucks are fun to own and a delight to drive, with their ultra-powerful engines, top-class drive, and wonderful features. They provide you with versatility and comfort, whether you are looking to go on a road trip or use it for your daily commute to work. You can easily conquer any terrain with pickup trucks, provided that their transmission doesn’t give you any problems.

The reason we say this is because of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which is a 4-speed pickup truck that is equipped with the powerful 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, and 6.0L engines and provides the perfect drive. However, it has come with its fair share of transmission problems. Throughout the years, various models of the Chevrolet Silverado come with various transmission types, including the 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L80E, 6L80, and 8L90.

Chevrolet Silverado and the Consumer Reports

Unfortunately, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado has gotten pretty bad reviews in the data offered by Consumer Reports, and customers gave it only one star out of five in terms of reliability. Thousands of Silverado owners have complained about the transmission issues in various models of the pickup truck, because of which the car has fallen steeply in the eyes of consumers.

According to drivers, there have been major and minor transmission issues in the Chevrolet Silverado models that were manufactured between 2014 and 2021. These problems have landed people in quite a lot of trouble, causing them to get stranded during their adventures or trips, and having to spend hundreds of dollars on roadside assistance or repairs. The transmission problems can be categorized according to the different models of the Chevy Silverado.

Problems with the Chevrolet Silverado 4L60E/4L65E Transmission

One of the most common problems with the 4L60E/4L65E transmission of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was that the drivers experienced a delay or shudder while shifting from the first gear to the second, and this was attributed to a malfunctioning 1-2 Accumulator, which is meant to absorb the fluid pressure buildup inside the valve body and ensure smooth shifting. This part is made from plastic and can break easily, which is why it causes problems in the transmission system.

Another problem with these transmission systems is that it doesn’t allow you to shift between the third and fourth gears after pressing the clutch. According to experts, this issue is caused due to worn out discs inside the 3-4 clutch pack.

Chevy Silverado 4L80E Transmission

The 4L80E transmission system, which is fitted inside the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD only, also comes with its fair share of problems. The shift solenoids inside the transmission are installed to maintain a connection between the computer and the shifting system. There are a total of eight solenoids inside the valve body and even if one of them malfunctions, drivers experience slipping gears or extreme resistance while shifting gears.

Although the transmission fluid inside the 4L80E transmission is meant to keep the moving parts cool and free from friction, it does little when the truck is succumbed to heavy loads and extreme driving. As a result, the transmission overheats and blows the seals, which furthers the damage to the clutch and valve body.

Chevy Silverado 6L80 Transmission

Most of the models of the Chevrolet Silverado after 2007 contained the 6L80 transmission, which are known to provide drivers with very hard and difficult shifting, slipping gears, and overheating. This is caused due to a problem with the Pressure Regulator System, which is equipped with valves, springs, and ball bearings, and is responsible for maintaining the hydraulic pressure required for the smooth operation of the automatic transmission.

However, the PRS contains some plastic parts and low-quality metal components that wear out or break pretty easily, thus causing excessive wear and tear on the valve body.

What can be done?

Nevertheless, it seems that the Chevrolet Silverado’s transmission issues aren’t getting better any time soon, considering by the way drivers rated its 2021 model.
